In our case this was failing since this procedure was being run on the wrong instance and returns the wrong Instance Name. All Rights Reserved. Only thing is , I get the above mentioned error after reboot and the SQL Agent does not come up?? I was then able to set the SQL Server alias back to its default (default), rebooted, and everything was fine. Now this is a generic connectivity issue and we will try a simple test.
